LO3 Know the features and functions of information system 3.1 Features of information systems 3.1.1 Data - Data is information stored in its raw form.The data will then be summarised to create information which will be then be used by the different organizations. 3.1.2 People - People are another key feature of information systems and need to understand how the system works to maximized the potential of the data stored in the information systems. 3.1.3 Hardware - Hardware used in information systems depends on the size of the organisations is small then all the management and storage of information will be done on one or two computers which are used by the management. 3.1.4 Software - Software is a key component of any system as it is what lets the end the user access the sytem to enter and find information. 3.1.4 Telecommunications - Telecommunications is an organisation used as information may be sent to others over an internal intranet connection. 3.2 Functions

Data Protection Act 1998 The Data Protection Act is to protect your personal information is used by organisations, businesses or the government. Everyone responsible for using data has to follow strict rules called ‘data protection principles’. They must make sure the information is: -used fairly and lawfully -used for limited, specifically stated purposes -used in a way that is adequate, relevant and not excessive  accurate -kept for no longer than is absolutely necessary -handled according to people’s data protection rights -kept safe and secure -not transferred outside the European Economic Area without adequate protection Freedom of Information Act 2000 The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides public access to information held by public authorities. It does this in two ways: public authorities are obliged to publish certain information about their activities; and members of the public are entitled to request information from public authorities.
