What is workstation and NIC?

It is a computer dedicated to user or group of users engaged in business or professional work.

NIC is a circuit board or card installed in computer so that it connected to a network.

Features and Functions

Print
- A computer that process print related jobs on a network of computers.

It allows users in a computer network to perform a printing job without having move files to the computer connected directly to the printer.

Mail
- A computer system that sends and receives email

Web
- A program to serve file that form Web pages to users, in response to their requests.







Proxy
- It is dedicated computer or a software system running on a computer that acts as an intermediary    between an endpoint device.

It allow client computers to make indirect network connection to other network services.

- File
To stores network users data files




Interconnection devices

- Router
It facilitates the movement of data between devices and other networks.
Router determine where to send information from one computer to another.













Switch

- A switch, in the context of networking is a high-speed device that receives incoming data packets and redirects them to their destination on a local area network (LAN).














- Wireless Access Point
It is a hardware device or configured node on a local area network that allows wireless capable device and wired networks to connect through a wireless standard.
